What do we mean when we talk about Sustainable properties?

The Oxford English dictionary defines Sustainable as: " To keep up or keep going; Endure; To keep in existence; Maintain; Capable of being sustained; Capable of being continued with minimal long-term effect on the environment or depletion of natural resources; to continue to exist; last: To continue in the same state without perishing; to last; to remain"

So....

we define a sustainable property as one which facilitates a sustainable lifestyle, i.e. one which allows a reduction in the use of the Earth's natural resources and allows the residents lives to be conducted in manners that are consistent with sustainability, in natural balance and respectful of humanity's symbiotic relationship with the Earth's natural ecology and cycles.

Sustainability Rating - SR

We have tried to find a way of evaluating properties on their level of sustainability and have provided details on various aspects, such as method of construction, access to water etc. We have developed a rating system to enable potential purchasers to see clearly what the property offers. How do we achieve sustainability of our homes?
